One Small Misstep (OSM) is a fun and accessible show that can play in front of audiences of all ages. It can be a single 72-minute act as performed at undercurrents festival 2025. Alternatively, it can be split into two 45-minute acts as performed by Lost Baggage Musical Theatre in January 2026. Either way, the sci-fi references, inspiring tunes and action make it appealing to those who are new to musical theatre and seasoned aficionados alike. OSM also contains factual scientific content with links to the Ontario Grade 6 science curriculum, allowing it to be marketed to schools as professional edutainment or as a school production they can mount themselves, as two Ontario schools plan to do in May and June 2026. OSM started as a concept album, recorded by paid actors and released on Spotify and Youtube in October 2023. This gives prospective audience members a preview of the show, and something to listen to after watching it. The show itself provides costume, prop and set designers with numerous opportunities to create a visual buffet featuring futuristic spaceships, alien gadgets and colourful robotic criminals. OSM and its cast and crew were lucky enough to be nominated for numerous awards with Broadway World Ottawa, coming in second place in the New Play or Musical Category in 2025. It has received glowing reviews from local organizations such as apt613 and Intermission Magazine. Much of its development was made possible by grants and donations from various people who saw merit in the idea of a space musical. It is an evolving production of collaboration with each new cast and crew encouraged to make it their own. This freedom to explore and customize is a selling point, designed to stimulate creativity and create unique theatrical experiences wherever the show is produced.

While the show doesn't emphasize a specific group or equity issue, these topics arise in various ways. In terms of casting, the android Pawn can be played by a male, female or non-binary actor. In the case of the latter two options, when Pawn falls in love with the female lead Sam, it creates a non-heterosexual romantic dynamic. Bobby the alien can also be played by a male, female or non-binary actor or puppeteer since in the show, Bobby doesn’t choose their gender until adulthood. Lastly, the show brings up non-traditional family dynamics with the orphan Sam eventually finding her biological parents, but holding them accountable for their life choices.
